About

Artist Statement

I’m a landscape artist in Nelson, BC. I spend my summers hiking in the West Kootenay and strive to capture my love of the local mountains with bright, colourful acrylic landscapes.

Working from photographs as well as pencil, ink, and watercolour sketches made along the trail, I work to develop paintings that focus on the majesty of the mountain landscapes. I use colour and shape to push the structure of the mountains towards the surreal, striving to capture the feelings of otherworldly bliss and awe that come with exploring these wild places.

I also spend time studying other Canadian landscape artists and draw inspiration from the Group of Seven, particularly the work of Lawren S. Harris. I follow the work of established Kootenay artists who capture the same mountain landscapes in their own brilliant style.
