I was recommended the website as the best local resource, the decided to get the book as a LOT of this area (even main roads) doesn't have service. I'm happy to support a local author, but was not expecting the high quality publishing - a properly tough book for regular outdoor use.
While the website does have all the info, I would still strongly recommend the book as you can then ponder your next adventure while lounging at the river (no service), or check those directions again when you reach the trailhead (also no service).
If the only content was the book, I would give 4 stars, only the website is also 4 stars (lack of access being the 5th, which isn't their fault, but it does affect usability). Both together are a sold 5 stars!

I have been following the website for years and I'm glad to have the physical book to take with me on my adventures! We live in such a beautiful area, I'm glad Abby could capture what we should be utilizing around our own homes!

Ignore the bitter 4 star curmudgeons. This hiking guide is the bomb of West Kootenay hiking guides. The layout is spectacular, lots of information but not too much, GPS tracks for those that want them, etc. I've never met the author but I bought this in pre-production a few months before it was finished. When I emailed Abby on, literally, zero notice that I was in Nelson and wanted to pick up my book, she dropped it in her delivery box within the hour. You're not getting convenience like that from the giant, nameless and faceless, publishing houses that ignore everything that isn't a hiking trail starting from the Starbucks at Whistler. If you want to hike the Kootenays and not bushwack your way through soul-crushing alder or devil's club that shreds the toughest of hiking pants, get this book. I mean, uou won't get MY version because I bought the special edition with Abby's art cover but you can settle for second best with the standard edition. For once, second best is gold too!
