A smokey August day led us into the alpine, seeking clearer air at high elevation. I discovered a beautiful patch of paintbrush wildflowers in the "Sluice Box" ski run at Whitewater Ski Resort. Ymir Peak is in the background, shadowed in smoke but still visible. This painting has calm, neutral colours in the background punctuated by vibrant flowers in the foreground.
