Preorder FAQs

When will the books be ready for shipping or local pickup?

The books will be available in early May 2025, just in time for hiking season! Local pickup will be available in a few locations and times (including my home studio in Nelson). You'll get an email with options when your book is ready for pickup.

Shipped orders will be prioritized with Trail Blazer members getting books first, then earliest orders will ship next. If you chose shipping, you'll get an email with tracking information when your book is shipped.

You'll be added to the email list for updates on the preorder campaign and you're also very welcome to join the West Kootenay Hiking Guidebook Facebook Group as another place to connect and see behind the scenes of how the book came together.

If you can share this preorder campaign with your hiking buddies and network that would be so appreciated!

What are the shipping costs and locations that you ship to?

Shipping costs are calculated at checkout based on your location. They are calculated based on the weight of the book and the quantity of books you buy.

Shipping is available worldwide. If you feel shipping costs are quoted too high, please contact me with your shipping address and I'll confirm the quote.

What are the tax or customs/duty costs?

For Canadian customers, GST and PST are calculated at checkout when applicable.

For Canadian retailers, I have included GST in the discount in the preorder price. GST will not be charged separately at checkout.

For US and International customers, you can use a calculator to estimate what taxes/duty might be collected on import.

What happens if the fundraising goal isn't met? Will the book still be printed?

Yes, I will pay for the book printing with personal savings if we don't meet the crowdfunding goal. The $10,000 goal is what would really help me launch this book into the world and pay the printer bill. If the goal is met, I will offer some additional stretch goals to improve the binding and look of the book so we can work together to make a better guide! If you can share this campaign page with a friend or fellow hiker buddy, it goes a long way to supporting the goal and helping bring the book into this world!

I've preordered the book, how else can I support this campaign?

You can share this campaign page with your hiking friends and outdoor network! The more folks that preorder, the more opportunities there are to meet stretch goals and improve the book a little bit for everyone.

What are the stretch goals for the book?

The stretch goals will be unveiled if we meet the initial funding goal. They are small upgrades to the book at printing that improve the binding and paper quality.

  1. $12,500 - Round corners on the outer edge to make the book more durable during carry.

Is there an ebook option?

The West Kootenay Hiking website serves as the free ebook version of the book, with dozens of additional trails, interactive maps, and user-submitted trail reports. I will be working this spring to ensure distances are aligned between the guidebook and websites.

Even though you can get similar information online for free, I hope you'll consider buying the physical book! It has simple page layouts with easily scannable information, custom maps and elevation charts, doesn't need to be charged, and works well out of cell service.

About the author

The mountains were calling! Abby Wilson moved to the West Kootenay in 2016 and started a hiking blog. The blog grew into a popular website, and Abby brought her tech background into developing the website into the main hiking trail resource for our region.

Hiking fuels Abby’s main passion—painting West Kootenay landscapes! She uses her treks to gather reference photos and sketchers, capturing the mountains with bright, bold acrylic landscapes. Abby’s work explores how geometry aligns with geology, emphasising the shapes found in the natural landscape in a graphic style.

Abby lives with her husband Andrew and young family in Nelson, BC.
