About the author
The mountains were calling! Abby Wilson moved to the West Kootenay in 2016 and started a hiking blog. The blog grew into a popular website, and Abby brought her tech background into developing the website into the main hiking trail resource for our region.
Hiking fuels Abby’s main passion—painting West Kootenay landscapes! She uses her treks to gather reference photos and sketchers, capturing the mountains with bright, bold acrylic landscapes. Abby’s work explores how geometry aligns with geology, emphasising the shapes found in the natural landscape in a graphic style.
Abby lives with her husband Andrew and young family in Nelson, BC.
I was recommended the website as the best local resource, the decided to get the book as a LOT of this area (even main roads) doesn't have service. I'm happy to support a local author, but was not expecting the high quality publishing - a properly tough book for regular outdoor use.
While the website does have all the info, I would still strongly recommend the book as you can then ponder your next adventure while lounging at the river (no service), or check those directions again when you reach the trailhead (also no service).
If the only content was the book, I would give 4 stars, only the website is also 4 stars (lack of access being the 5th, which isn't their fault, but it does affect usability). Both together are a sold 5 stars!
Such a great tool to have if you enjoy hiking in the Koots!
Just wanted to congratulate you on your fabulous book. I love it! Clear, concise, all the important details. Really really well done!
Wonderful local hiking book! Thanks Abby!
This is the book that you didn't know that you needed! It is organized so we'll, and it is absolutely stunning! Everyone needs this book
